So, This Just Happened

Postie just scraped the front of the car! Just superficial damage, paint rubbed off etc awaiting a call/visit from the manager regarding insurance etc

Thing is, the cars not worth much, isn't spotless by any means and I really don't think it's worth fixing BUT I don't want to drive about with it like it is. Not sure what to do 🤔

Phew, thought it was going to be the new Fiesta!! 😮

There must be hundreds of black Mk2 bumpers & wings in scrap yards on the mainland...I'm not sure how easy it is to get them delivered to yours though?

The alternative is trying to paint it yourself...but it isn't as easy as it looks.  I've never been able to master paint so I just swap panels.

They might insist that you go through insurance and have a shiny new bumper sprayed and fitted at a bodyshop, but I'd ask for a cash settlement away from insurance instead...

Can't imagine Royal Mail offering a cash settlement somehow, would be good if they did 😄

Well in that case you won't have any choice about what to do...it'll be up to their insurers!

True!

That sucks. But imagine if it was a random hit and run driver that you wouldn't be able to track down!

Ideally you can try and claim on their insurance if they let you, you can get it repaired fully to a professional standard (like new), and that way your own insurance premium won't go up as much (regardless of the fact that it wasn't your fault). That's what I would be asking RM.

Update

Just had a call from the solicitors running the case. I've had a couple of calls from different people regarding this and due to the company who handle the work's nearest place to get stuff done is in Glasgow, I was offered the choice of a cash settlement to get the work done at a later date.

So they're in the process of paying in £600 into our account! Probably more than the car's worth 😆

I might bribe my local postie to scrape the Passat when he's next round
