Focus Breakdown 1.8Dti 2000

Featured Replies

I didnt think i'd be on my second post in as many days lol, just had my focus a week, was on a trip out this morning about 10 miles from home, sudden loss of power, glo plug warning light flashing, bit of smoke out the back!

Pulled over and had the car recovered back to Ford garage (conveniently opposite where i live!)

Any ideas guys as to problem? i know its in the best place at the moment, just hope it wont cost an arm and a leg!

Started ok by the way off the recovery lorry. Having MOT and interim service same time.

well it refers to the fule system so it can be anything from diesel pump to injectors etc etc

a bit of info on the cars service history, only 53400 miles todate, last service at 49,000 in May 08, had done 17500 in its 1st year and a half then averaging about 3000 a year. i'm hoping the problem isnt anything too serious /costly, had been running fine all week, just a little lumpy on acceleration before finally losing power quite quickly and having to pull over.

have read in other threads that common causes of this symptom are 1-fuel pump, 2-accelorator pedal/sensor, 3-cam sensor.

Other causes are the EGR valve(if its never been cleaned out and the turbo actuator, if its the later electronic version common rail fuel pressure sensor and the IMV valve which, as far as I understand it ,controls the fuel pressure to the common rail and hence the pressure sensor fault until they plug it in you wont know despite the mileage sometimes these faults can be costly
