140 1.0 Ecoboost P0251

Featured Replies

Hiya folks, got a Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost, stripped and rebuilt engine, replaced a piston, it starts completely fine and holds a rev at anything until 2000rpm, when it hits 2000 it starts jumping around and dying out. I've got one fault code P0251: Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control A. Not sure as whats causing this, one thing i did notice, the cylinder that had the broken piston, the injector is actually sticking out further than the other 2 as in its not sitting flush with the bottom of the head, can anyone help? absolutely baffled with this

as you can see in the photo, have you checked the injectors top and bottom O rings ? also check the fuel rail bolt tightening.

are you sure you have tightened the head bolts according to factory torque specs ? can't think of any other cause for this 🙂

the head bolts are torqued up correctly, the fuel rail is definitely secure, im just not sure what it could be, the top green o ring on the injector might possibly be worn as the rail has been on and off a couple times now so its possible its losing pressure there, i saw another thread where someone had the same issue but the the cause was the connector pins in the hp and evap were bent, im gonna have a look when im home

The DI injectors dont sit flush with the inside of the combustion chamberas this protects the tips from the heat of combustion.

This is a head I am currently playing with.

Check the top of the injector to the fuel rail for a clip as these stop the injectors moving outwards. see link

I think this is the part that is either missing or not fitted correctly https://photos.app.goo.gl/pLEG6m2g6UjWAXtJA

and clip fitted on injector https://photos.app.goo.gl/NhhPqAY9nGU7ZHLLA

PS  - Be very mindfull of the fact the injection rail can have upto 2500psi fuel in it and even if the car has not been run for a few days it will be plenty enough to get through your skin.

Yeah the clip is on everything seems fine with it, ordered a new injector for it n hope it sorts it and if it doesnt then oh well its got a new injector. been driving me mad, ive also got another code P0459 wondering if that could possibly be related as its purge valve related

So you're sure that the broken piston didn't cause any other damage you might have overlooked ?

Thanks for this joncr98, you solved my problem! Yesterday I changed the engine bay wiring loom (hacked and spliced to bits by previous owner resulting in no boost solenoid ground) and ended up with p0251 and limp mode. Just as you said I got the fuel pump and canister valve mixed up. Swapped around and no issues !
