Intermittent low oil pressure

Featured Replies

Hi all looking for some help with my 2013 ford fiesta mk7 1.5 tdci

Around 2 weeks ago I was getting a message coming up on the screen saying engine low oil pressue the message would go so quick I couldn't read it I had to video it on my phone to see what it said. NOTE this would only come up when first starting the car for the first time in the day anything after that it would not come on.

I took the car in for a full service and the mechanic also run a full diagnostic and no codes were found and no historical codes. The message then stopped and didn't come back on.

Today when starting the car for the first time I had the message come up again it goes off after about half of second.

No unwanted noise from the engine and it runs fine no message comes up when driving.

If it was the oil pressure sensor why would I only happen when first starting the car then never come up again?

Any advice or help please has anyone ever had this issue?

Sounds like the pump is struggling to build up pressure. What's the service history like? Usually it makes naff all difference, but a poor service history could be a huge factor here.

Hi luke

Service history is good 12k, 20k, 32 and just now it's had a full service.

The only thing is if it was struggling to gain pressure why does it only happen when first starting the car for the first time in the day? I could leave it for 5 hours and it won't come back on.

Today starting the car I got no message at all.

I'm thinking maybe take the sump off and investigate to see if the oil pick up has anything in there or replace the pressure sensor.

I just find it odd that it's intermittent and only happens when first staring the car for the first time in the day anything after nothing comes up.

The paper/plastic (not metal can ) oil filter element on these has a sort of peg sticking out of bottom. It has a rubber o ring on it. This has to locate with a hole in bottom of holder. But it’s quite hard to be sure it is in right as you can’t see it when inserting filter. Never been sure what this does but I thought maybe it means the oil filter housing empties itself when you pull filter out but will also do it overnight if filter not located correctly. I am only guessing it might be something to do with this.
