Ongoing DPF issue

2008 1.6D Zetec Estate 181,000

My Focus has been a tank all these years (I've put about 140k on it) but I've had a recurring problem with the DPF the last 100k.

I've had 2 new DPFs fitted and it has force-regenned 3 times as my model won't regen/burn itself. Multiple mechanics have looked at it, including Ford, and even they have said it's an unfixable issue with the ECU.

It was last forced regen about 10k miles ago, and today I had all the symptoms of a blocked filter (cough, rev-loss, cut out), but now I'm not even getting an engine warning light or a fault code. I managed to burn a bit off (4k revs) but it's now in limp mode, still with no engine warning light and no fault codes.

I am only planning to keep it another 10k miles, and I'm tempted to get the DPF removed (naughty I know), but I can't see an economical option any more, or will the removal of the DPF likely fail the MOT (October) regardless of whether the DPF is noted as missing?

Anyone tested the DPF pressure sensor as this can get overlooked? Make sure there are no splits in the pipes that go from the DPF to the pressure sensor. I'm not sure if your vehicle will be equipped with a vaporiser but that's also worth a look to see if it's blocked or the glow plug has stopped working. Hope this helps
