brake light earthing fault

hi all

got a focus mk2 1.6 sport and ive an issue when the side lights are on and when you press the brake the o/s rear lights go out, im told its an earthing issue but not sure where it is any help much appriciated

Could be that, had this problem on many older cars in past. Get some wire, trim insulation off about 1 cm . Force that bare bit down side of bulb in the bulb holder. But not so far that it can touch bottom terminal. Trim insulation off other end of wire and fix that to car body somewhere. Don’t know what other screws bolts are nearby that screw into body work for you to make use off. In the long run it might need a better fix but at least it might prove what the problem is
