Judder when decreasing throttle (2006 Mk2 Wagon)

Featured Replies

Apologies beforehand if this is the wrong subforum.

Whenever I release/decrease the throttle when in going say, 80kph, because someone is breaking in front of me or I see the light turn red or whatever my mk2 will sometimes but not always judder a bit. Same happens if I'm going 100 on cruise control and I reset it. Which will I think cut the throttle entirely. It feels like there's play somewhere.

I've checked the engine mounts and they seem fine (even stuck a gopro under the bonnet during a drive to see). I also read somewhere it might be clogging of the throttle body so I cleaned that out. But no avail.

Any ideas what it could be? Clutch? CV joints? I'm a "beginner" when it comes to car DIY so I'm still getting the hang of diagnosing.

Car has got 235000km. And clutch and driveline have never been replaced. Clutch still seems fine to me, always smooth and no slipping. However I'm currently driving the car in such a way that I'm probably wearing the clutch down quicker. Letting it come up really slowly will take the judder out of acceleration (I was taught not to do this in drivers Ed).

I've had my lisence for about 8 years and mostly drove company cars, vans, boss' cars etc. But only in my own car I have to be super feathery with the clutch for a comfortable ride.

Thanks for the help in advance. Be nice, I'm happy to learn!
