Hi all,

Can anyone advise me how you remove the wind in/wind out mechanism that operates the brake piston on an ST rear caliper?

I'm having my calipers painted and need to remove the mechanism from each of the rear calipers before I send them to the painter.

Cant work out how these things are removed!

Help!!

It's literally nothing more than a cylinder that gets pushed out by hydraulic fluid. Have a look at a rebuild kit and you'll realise how simple they are.

Should just pull out, probably need some adjustable pliers (and some rag so you don't damage the piston) and just pull on is slightly. Obviously make sure it's disconnected from the brake line or you'll essentially pull a vacuum lol. I tend to push it out as far as I dare whilst it's still connected to the car. Gives you more to grip onto.

In the past I've used a fitting where the brake line threads into the caliper and used compressed air to push it out. Wouldn't recommend it, once it freed off it went across the workshop like a bullet lol.

Hi,

Thanks for this. But it's not the piston I'm trying to remove- it's the work- drive like actuator......

See the pic attached
