Towing

Featured Replies

Iv got a 14 plate cdti and considering buying a touring caravan has anyone with a similar car got any experience towing caravans if so how do they shape up to the task and what's the max caravan weight that can be towed thanks

You didn't say the engine size🤔😂

Max towing weight should be on the vin plate inside the bonnet, it'll defo be in the book. Doing a brief search it looks like it is 1200kg for the diesel powered focus regardless of engine size. That's according to Parkers. I would look in the book or on the VIN plate though.

Look at this link, it'll tell you how to interpret the info on the plate

https://www.towbarexpress.co.uk/maximum-towing-weight/

From reading the VIN stickers, my Mk 2 1.6TDCi is rated at 1300kg, though I have pulled a heavier trailer without any problems (not too far or too fast) and my Mk4 2.0 diesel is rated at 1800kg tow weight.  I expect both these weights are for braked trailers and would be a lot less for unbraked.  I guess all decent size caravans are braked and have stability control systems nowadays.
