Check engine light on after new battery

Hi all

Relatively new S-max owner here. First time Ford owner too so a bit unfamiliar with some processes and settings. In short the battery was on its way out so got it replaced. Didn't notice till following morning but the check engine light has come on. Is this to be expected after a new battery install? I was thinking along lines of no supply to ECU as old battery had completely drained causing this perhaps. If so what's the easiest and best way to clear this?

    You need to read the codes. You cant just make the assumption it's down to the battery.

    We recommend using Forscan and a modified Elm327 lead (about £15 from Tunnelrat).
