New Aftermarket head unit

Featured Replies

If I fit an after market head unit will I lose all the parking functions I have. There is auto park that tells you to go forward and back but does the steering itself, and the park assist that has the car front showing what front sensors are close to what and the rear view with grid lines etc. I suppose I would lose these functions. The 4" screen stays but I think it just shows time and date.

When installing a generic aftermarket headunit you will loose all visual output of the PDC and Active Park Assist functionality.

The only aftermarket audio systems that have the ability to show the visual output of the PDC and Active Park Assist system are Chinese Android audio systems that are designed specifically for the Focus MK3/MK3.5.

Thanks, I am thinking sync1 to sync3 then which is a bit unnerving 🙂

Are you sure you have Sync 1?  If your signature is correct you have a 2014 Focus, it should be Sync 2 and should look like the image below.

It's a pre-facelift 2014 with the Sony sync1 I think it looks like this

No wonder you want to replace it then!

It's a good system.

Apart from being years out of date, with a small (by modern standards) screen and with a button layout that looks like a 5 year old machine gunned the dashboard when deciding how many buttons to have and where to have them.  Besides that, it's great!

Joking aside, even Sync 2 is a decent step forward from Sync 1/1.1 but if you're going to upgrade I'd definitely go for Sync 3 if possible.

Yeah I'm trying to source one for a lot less than £600 if possible, it just seems a bit rich for the gains to be had.

Yup, it's tricky.  You either go the Ford route to keep the existing functionality or go aftermarket to get DAB+ etc but potentially lose some of the factory functionality.

I want to keep the functionality.

Yep, but I'm patient, I will wait for a bargain 🙂

100% worth doing, given my car a new lease of life lol...

Keep in mind you may need to do firmware updates on PAM module and this requires the ELS27 or better.

I have an ELM OBD2 and Forscan etc, it's just justifying the considerable expense for  what  I want which is Carplay and DAB+. I'll keep my eyes open and see what happens. I'm happy enough with what I have but it's an itch and I need to scratch it 🙂

Going price seems to be £350 to £400 on ebay

You might get lucky if you can visit some breakers. Just make sure you grab the usb hub if you do they seem to be hard to get hold off or cost £60+
