Mark 3 Sony unit DAB problems

Featured Replies

Hi.

Just bought a 61 plate Titanium yesterday and I'm having terrible trouble finding DAB stations I normally listen to indoors, not helped by the awful Ford manual which tells you next to nothing about DAB tuning.

My wife will listen to BBC R2 which I can get but R4 and Radio London can't be found at all. I listen to Absolute Classis Rock which again can't be located but a few other Absolute channels can. Jazz FM also can't be located.

I pressed a few buttons once, don't ask what ones and in what order, and it did go through all the channels, including my missing ones, but no button would stop the scan on the channel I wanted to play and save to preset.

Please could somebody do what Ford can't and tell me how to scan and save on the DAB radio as either I'm doing something wrong or the radio is faulty.

Dave.

The mk3 Focus is very easy to tune the DAB into. All you do is press the CD track skip buttons (next to the phone answer and end call buttons respectively on the Sony stereo. Otherwise above the volume button on the non-Sony unit).

Specific stations are all grouped together when you go through the list (known as blocks). So the national BBC stations are all on one 'block' and always go in order (radio 1, 1x, 2, 3 etc.). If you found radio 4, radio 2 should be 2 button presses away...

The DAB isn't the best on the Focus though, which maybe why you're missing stations. Try moving to a different area and try again. Evertime you change blocks (long delay between switching stations) then the list automatically scans and updates itself.

Just sitting in car now and managed to find the ones I needed through manual scan which was a faff!

Are these the blocks you're talking about? Are they specific to your region, I'm in Kingston, Surrey?

It's a terrible system imo, not sure why they made it so complicated!

Have you worked out how to store them?  Once you're on the correct station you need to 'select' it.  Then you can use the buttons along the bottom of the display (which are about a foot below the display!) to store it as a preset iirc.

With physical buttons, they could easily have made it save by pressing and holding a number...but seem to have used a touch screen interface on a system without a touchscreen...

Yes after a lot of misses where the station changed when I thought I was adding it as a preset I've now managed to get 10 stations added. I now dread the battery being disconnected in the future!

Might be wrong, but I'm fairly confident when I disconnected my battery on my old Fiesta (which is the same radio) the stations stayed.

In my old Mk2, when the radio is taken out, all the stored stations still remain, I'm pretty sure there is a built in capacitor to retain such information to stop owners becoming even more frustrated at having such un intuitive systems thrust upon them LOL
