Hey guys, need some help, I've got a 09 plate s-max here that was driving fine and all of a sudden was going slower and came to a stop, upon looking at it ive noticed that the expansion tank has a split and little to no coolant in the tank, if I replace this will the car begin to work or is there something else? Also forgot to mention as it stopped it started showing a engine malfunction light on the dash.

    Did the engine overheat? If not then it's purely coincidence the tank was empty. You need to find out what that engine malfunction means by reading the codes.
