Engine System Fault

Featured Replies

Hi all,

On my 57 Focus 1.6 petrol I just had an “Engine systems fault, Reduced Acceleration” error pop up. The rev counter and speedometer dropped to 0 and back to normal a couple of times and the red light to the right of the information display remained on. The abs and handbrake light also flashed briefly and then remained off. Car seemed a bit sluggish when accelerating after changing gear although I was able to get it to 60mph fine and drove for 10 mins to get home. I checked the fault code on the dash which gave dtc #01 D900 only and on torque I had a u0001 pending fault code. I went for another 15 minute drive after about 20 mins but the car drove fine. Could anyone suggest what may have caused this to happen and if it may be a issue that may get worse?

Thanks

No, I'm quite sure it will fix by itself.

i had this on my 56 plate 1.6 and for the love of god i could not find out what was wrong with it.

But what i used to do was just pull over and restart the car and all would be good.

on thing i will add is that it used to do it more if the car was stuck in traffic with lots of crawling along

Did yours start with the car over revving on its own? Mine revved into the red and would only stop by being turned off.

Hope you get it sorted as i would love to know the cause even though i traded mine in

No i was just driving along at a steady 30mph. I don’t think I’ve ever reved mine in to the red as I drive like an old lady [emoji3]

Unfortunately, that is the common cluster fault. The solder on the main connector needs re-soldering as they get dry joints and the vehicle looses comms with the modules on the car.

Plenty of places offer a repair and return service (check Ebay, search Focus MK2 cluster repair) it'll cost you about £50-60

In the meantime, before you get it fixed, to restart the car, when it dies, pull over, take the key out of the ignition completely, open and close the driver's door and it'll restart.
