Automatic not recognising its in park (P) ??

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We have a 2014 Titanium powershfit which has an intermittent problem, which is kind of hard to describe, but here goes:  When we park up and move the shifter to Park, the 'P' on the dash flashes (as it should), but when we turn the engine off using the Start/Stop button and open the door, the 'P' continues to flash, the radio remains on (when It normally shuts off) and the doors wont lock.

As anyone experienced this issue before?  Or can someone offer any suggestions where to start looking?

Thanks in advance

Hi, I have the same problem with my 2011 titanium powershift s-max, did you manage to find the problem???

I'm going to say yes he found the fault. Otherwise he's had a broken car for over 2 years. 🙄

Thank you Dr. Watson 🤣 By the powers of deduction I've established that the One Post Wonder pj2412 last graced the forum with their presence 9th September 2022.

The most likely cause of your problem is the gear selector switch that detects when the transmission is in park has a fault. If you use the software FORScan and a vLinker FS cable you will be able to monitor the operation of the switch and that of the Traction Control Module (TCM).

Its a good job your such a good detective sherlock! Lol...anyway about the car, im sodding useless with cars and im not sure where the gear selector switch is (i have tried googling it), if you could point me in the right direction Mr Holmes??

You need to use FORScan first to establish the fault. The TCM both detects the position of the gear selector and also controls the gear change. If you're not good with cars then I'd find an Auto-Electrician (one that knows Fords) to test the operation of the TCM to see if it is detecting when the gear selector is in park.

Here are a couple of links to show the workings of the system.
