Easiest Mk2 front speaker change ever

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I changed the front speakers for...

JVC CS-J620X 6.5"

wasn’t really bothered about what they sounded like but just couldn’t listen to just a pair of tweeters any longer!!

Anyway... hit the jackpot with these; they fit inside the baskets of the old speakers so no need to drill out the rivets on the plastic collar OR grind/cut the basket and magnet out of the old speakers. Just pull the cables off the cone cut the cone around the rubber surround, pull out including the voicecoil then remove the orange mesh that covers the magnet. The JVC’s then fit inside, just solder the spade connectors on and screw into the lip on the plastic collar. Door cards go back on no problem.

oh and they’re £18 a pair off the bay...

Have you ever cut a watermelon in half and ate it with a spoon?

End result would be similar since there's no picture 😅

Now Lenny, there's a reason they say a picture is worth a 1000 words! LOL Dammit man, you've now put me in the notion for a watermelon!

most music systems sound rubbish and get damaged because the amp is not powerful enough...   as you wind up the volume the speaker cones start to wobble about because the amp is trying too hard and can't control the speaker cones

to start with its all mushy and incoherent... so you wind it up more, coz the extra vol help cover up the fact it sounds naff, ….and now we enter the area of speaker destruction, the cone bouncing out of control hits the physical end stops (clipping) and you get sharp spiky tinny crashing noses...   keep going and if the speaker coils don't get fried with too much power / heat you often end up with damaged rattley nasty speakers.

expensive hard to drive speakers with a nasty amp sound horrid and die, whilst conversely, bolt on a massively powerful amp with cheap little speakers and the system wakes up and happily dances with the music...

its why the stock speakers sound great when you bolt on the ford sony amp, as its now got half the power the system needed all along.... rather than the 10% (never fit for purpose) stock system
