Focus Mk1 IB5 Gearbox (2001)

Featured Replies

Hey all,

This is going to be a real niche question, but does anyone know whether the 1.6 Manual (IB5) gearbox (part number: XS4R7002FC which is designated for 2005 models), will fit on a 2001 model which currently has part number XS4R7002FB? They look identical, but then I can only see pictures. Is it best to call Ford and speak to them?

TIA!

I would say so, the only thing you would need to confirm is if the final drive ratios match.

There should be a tag on the box somewhere

Thanks Dave! The only markings I can see on both boxes are the identifier tags.

The original box has the code:

XS4R 7002 FB
T6TC1 090921 003959

And for the later model:

XS4R 7002 FC
T6TC1 070704 002480

Do you know if these codes have any hidden meaning or are they just simple identifiers? (I mean the codes under the part numbers). I suspect T6TC1 has some relevance?

Thanks mate!

I don't understand the codes underneath the part number, sorry.

The part number is the same though, as you can see, apart from the last letter.

From my understanding of Ford part number systems that is exactly the same gearbox as the early "B" one apart from its had some sort of engineering improvement made to it.

It's better, basically.

The XS4R is the chassis and year it was first introduced on

the 7002 is the base number for all gearboxes (every Ford gearbox would be 7002) or all manuals at least

The "F" is the derivative or version of the gearbox (number of gears, final ratio, power rating etc etc)

The "B" is the engineering level. All parts when first released are "A" and every time they are modified they go up a letter.

The IB5 doesn’t have a drain plug👍
