Scammers!!!

More of a warning than a rant.

My mum is 82, lives alone and has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She has 4 care visits every day to make sure she's eating etc I go up every other day to replenish fridge etc

I got a call today from her dinnertime carer saying that when she came in she 'caught' mum on the phone with her bank statements in her hand speaking to someone. The carer took the phone from my mum and spoke to the man on the end of the phone who gave her 'his' name and a number which turned out to be a legitimate number but not for her bank. Needless to say that the carer hung up the phone immediately.

When I went up after work and quizzed her she said she hadn't passed on any information, mainly because she had been interrupted. Apparently he had said that someone had tried to pay for flights with her account and did she know about it? I dread to think what could have been the outcome of the conversation had gone on for another couple of minutes!

Phoned her bank, I have Power of Attorney, and no suspicious activity has been detected. However, I think we'll change passwords etc anyway just to make sure (the fact that she couldn't remember her password is a bonus)

I had a talk with her and printed off a warning from her bank's website stating that they won't ask for passwords etc and I've stuck it beside her phone.

Hopefully it won't happen again and if it does she'll remember that it's probably a scam.

How these people can live with themselves I'll never know! 😡

Sorry to hear this.  The people that do this are the lowest form of life.

Really appreciate you putting this out.

Not long ago you remember I had that job interview from a mortgage broker. They had a company website which you'd think is legit but they only had 3 reviews with one saying it's a fake company. Interview went well and the guy said he'll take me on. What got me was there was a £250 registration fee.

Actually reported this vacancy and recently was told it's now removed from recruiting websites

scum bags everywhere

just before my mum died she sent me some cash for my birthday inside a card. - royal mail

when i received it yes envelope ripped money missing!

These people make my blood boil, they are complete scum and i have had a few and some in the last few weeks.

I have had the DHL one on e-mail about missing a parcel and sends you to DHL site then press a link which i didn't do to put in details and pay for re-deliver parcel.

Good to post it and remind people even more now as a lot of us are staying in so things like this are so easy to fall for including me as i was close.

Many of these scams are for tax returns or repayments, and the site it takes you to literally looks exactly like the original HMRC site. It's very easy to fall pray, but the thing is gov do not send emails or texts usually, so you can tell it never came from them.

You are so true as i have had to set up on this secure NHS email which they go through for anything to do with GP stuff like prescriptions and other stuff and it's so good as its password protected and other stuff.

These scammers know we all have alerts to say when a delivery for example is on its way like they all do it online so very easy to fall for it as with me my missed parcel alert on email was on the day i ordered an item and i very rarely have DHL it's mainly Royal Mail, so it's just checking the small things even spelling mistakes.
