Model is my car confused !

Featured Replies

Good morning guys , I have a Ford Fiesta with a a reg of FJ09WWK, now I assumed it was a mk7 because it’s the newer curvy model not the boxy kind , however when I put the reg in to buy parts it comes up as a mk6 and when checking sites half the sites have mk6 as the boxy kind .... my issue is when buying parts is it correctly a mk6 when adding your reg to the site ? Because I received a cambelt from euro parts it did not fit , purchasing using reg number , but maybe a one off ? I just need to no when entering my reg into sites it is correct. As I need to buy coil springs first thing Monday and don’t want the same issue .Also  if I enter the the reg it comes me one kind of spring then if I manually put the car details in and just make it so it’s a 6 months younger (2010)it give me a completely diff part number which I think would be the same model this is why am slightly worried. Very confusing

Hi Mark,

Several threads on this on the Fiesta Forum.

Sounds as if you have what we refer to here as a Mk 7, most non-UK markets however refer to this as a Mk 6, hence the confusion.

Could you post up a shot of your car then we can identify it for sure?

Hi Eric thanks for getting back to Me , yea course here it is ,also my main worry is what spring part to order using the reg on euro part site (or most others) which classes as a mk6 or putting a manual car description in but making it 6 months younger to get the site to make it a mk7 just not sure what part will fit with the problems from last time with car parts

Yes, that's definitely what we call a Mk 7 here, (late 2008 on). Some sites will refer to that as a Mk 6, so best, as you have found, to go by reg no and VIN when ordering parts.

I just put your number into a couple of sites (Euro is down at the moment) and they came back with 2009 Ford Fiesta, 1399cc, red.

I've had the same trouble occasionally in the past, getting different part nos when inputting reg no compared to vehicle details. If it happens, I would try and clarify with the vendor, and if not happy go elsewhere.

One of the threads I mentioned below for reference:

Thanks so much Erik so there an option to check the VIN on the sites also ? Or enter it ? That would help ! Yeh it was just the fact when entering a 2010 version (which should be exactly the same model it came up with a completely different size spring coil which troubled me I shall read the link now thanks

also Iv seen a lot what’s the meaning of the ja8 on the description I thought it was reg starting with but obviously mine doesn’t

Yes, unfortunately the parts sites do usually seem to use reg nos only. The VIN is useful when ordering parts from Ford (which is one way, hopefully, to get the right part!)

JA8/JR8 - I think it's some form of model identifier, nothing to do with the reg no. I've sometimes had "JHH" come up when looking at things for the Mk 8, and "JHH" is mentioned on my V5C under Section 4, vehicle details, type. So you may find "JA8" or "JR8" on your V5C.

That's all I know on that one I'm afraid!😀

👍

PS could I suggest posting future Fiesta specific topics in the Fiesta forum.  More chance of it being picked up by the right members able to help and it will help Admin (see the big red warning about posting in "General Chat" at the top of the page!😀

, strange thing when the car is manufactured in this country, you would expect this to happen with a foreign vehicle only.

Sadly, it's a long while since the last Fiesta was built here, about 2002 I think.😀

for some reason a Fiesta mk5 is called an mk6 in this country,

Yes, it's very confusing. It arose when the Mk 4 was so comprehensively facelifted/ revamped it became known as the Mk 5 in this country, everyone else carried on referring to it as a Mk 4.

Similar situation arose with the Mk1/Mk2 Mondeo iirc.

Now that is a blooming tragedy 😬

It is. The last vehicle manufactured by Ford in the UK (Transit) rolled off the lines at the Southampton in 2013, ending over 100 years of vehicle production here.😞

I wonder what the future will hold for Dagenham, given that the petrol engine plant at Bridgend has already gone? Not much future in diesel production now I guess, perhaps there might be investment in electric/alternatives though I suspect not given the way the industry still seems to have overcapacity and manufacturers are concentrating their operations on fewer sites.

The government needs to get its act together as engineering is the back bone of the country. future isn't in pen pushing bankers and insurance companies.

May be with brexit a new british car manufacturer will rise from the ashes like a phoenix. Save the steel works as British steel was best in world.

Least F1 manufacturers are still based in the uk currently.

Ford have been interested in the 1.5 litre engines to break the Chinese market.  Their tax is still done on engine size.  If they can get enough business over there, they'll have no need to build anything over here with the relatively small amount of Fords we'll buy...

The Chinese are now really getting into electric vehicles, too. Ford really need to get a full electric "normal" car on the market pretty quick, I reckon.

you could have a ford mustang Mach-e if you have £46k spare and if everyone in the country bought one they would had to wait for at least a couple of nuclear power stations to be built to charge then let alone build an infrastructure to power and maintain them too.

Sorry to say electrics not the way to go - Hydrogen fuel cell is. Turning out to be like betamax and vhs.

Yeah, basically I agree with you and have made the same point on other threads about electric/alternative vehicles.

As we've gone way off the original topic perhaps we should shut up here and move to one of those threads before we get in bother with Admin😀.
