Distance To Empty...... With A Twist

Featured Replies

Focus was needing fuel the day before it's MOT last week, so ever the pessimist I just put a tenner in, thinking it's bound to fail! Fuel gauge didn't move, not the first time it's happened.

Car passed its MOT, after fixing the stuck brake sensor and breaking the lock to get under the bonnet! 🙄

So now I know it's got plenty of fuel for a couple of weeks I'm wondering what happens when the 'Distance To Empty' reaches zero 😃 will it go to a negative number? 🤔

It just beeps and sits at 0. I've never had the balls to go more than a couple miles on 0.

When it gets to zero it stays zero. My Mondeo goes at least another 50miles before I need to fill up( not saying you can though.

Know on the modern fords that when you get to zero there's approx 5litres still in the tank.

Either Ford lie about tank capacity or it also includes all the pickups and fuel lines etc.

Ive stuck 2 litres less than the stated capacity in mine at zero when filling up.

I've done about 30 miles on 0 in a Mk3, and about 20 in a Mk2...both diesels though, wouldn't risk that far on a petrol lol.

I prefer  not to let fuel level go below half a tank. Psychologically cheaper to fill car (even if you are carrying extra 25kg of fuel making car less economical)

Have been stuck on motorway before for 6 hours in freezing conditions glad i had that extra fuel.  However looking where you are located you could probably walk home😁

I'm the same, plus it helps protect the in tank fuel pump on modern cars from overheating.

Never heard that before! 😲

Can't remember the last time the Focus had a full tank 🤔 maybe it's time I treated it! 😃
