Mondeo mk4 2.0 2007 tdci hard starting when cold

Featured Replies

Ok, I had my mondy go in for a cam belt change a few years ago and when I started it immediately after they did the work it hard started, when I questioned this and said it didn’t do this before they touched it I was assured everything was fine.

it’s not got any worse more has it got any better, I’ve even replaced the glow plugs and relay, starter motor, battery and fuel filter.

The issue only presents itself when it’s cold or been stood overnight, once it’s started it s fine after a rough idle for 10 seconds drives ok no flat spots or issues pulls fine. I’m at a complete loss as to what they have done to it.

can anyone else relate to this or shed some light on this as I’m worried my pride and joy may end up as scrap if I can’t sort it.

When you say hard to start, do you mean it cranks over normally and doesn’t start very well, or the engine is hard to crank over ?

Sorry only just seen your response, it starts after about 3-4 rotations sometimes more sometimes less depends on the temperature, once started it stutters then after 15 seconds or so it’s fine and runs fine with no issues.

I would suggest looking for possible air leaks into the fuel system. It sounds like it might be draining down a small amount of fuel after it’s been left standing , and the lumpy tick over when it starts is clearing the air from the system through all the injectors. The other things is , I don’t know if you’re model has a second fuel pump that primes the fuel system when you start , I have known them to fail on some vehicles and give similar symptoms , the vehicle did start better with a full fuel tank and became more difficult to start as the fuel level dropped in the tank .

Hi have you tried bleeding the system it sounds like you might have some air in the fuel lines. I have a mk4 mondeo 2.0 TDCi and I had a similar problem after I changed the fuel filter. I hope it’s ok to mention that I made a video on YouTube recently showing exactly what equipment I used and how I bled the system. If you type in my username on YouTube you should be able to find it. If you need any more info let me know Glyn

Fuel is leaking back...

Is as the two guys above have said!!!

👍🏼

I had a similar problem - system was bled but after a month the problem began again.  I had the fuel pipe from the filter to the engine pump renewed [ v expensive as pipe was £100 plus] but not had the problem since.  I surmise that the seal had deteriorated where the pipe clips onto the outlet of the filter.  Now been ok for 5 weeks.

A different problem;  has anyone attempted to fit Katur LED H7 and H1 bulbs to the headlights?  The push on fitting for the wires also contains the clip to hold bulb in.  To hold the Katur adaptor in the clip need to be separate.  All I can think of is to glue the adaptor in?  Big problem if the light need to be replaced !!   R Tierney.

Hi, I think you should start your own query on this issue rather than tack it on the end of an unrelated problem, more chance of it being noticed.
