Mk1 Front Speed Sensor Replacement

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

Our 09 S-Max has failed it's MOT, the back break pads and discs and anti-roll bars are easily sortable by the garage but they cannot diagnose why the ABS light is on, said there were loads of codes and recommended selling or scrapping the car!

Now the ABS light originally came on in December 2019 when the front bumper was hit by a van and stayed on until the weather warmed up in about May 2020 I think it was. It came back on around November 2020.

I re-downloaded FORScan and my F-Super 2 lead which I have had for many years and it reported back a short on the front right wheel sensor so I ordered one from ebay for £8.95 (worth a punt to save the car).

Question one. Apart from removing the front offside wheel is there anything else that needs removing to access and change the speed sensor?

Question two. Could this be the ECU getting damp and incorrectly reporting? Can the wheel sensor report wrongly due to damp?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Chris
