2008 mondeo 1.8tdi zetec timing belt or chain?

Featured Replies

Hi all. I’m interested in buying a 2008 mondeo 1.8tdi zetec with 77000 miles on it. Does anyone know if it has a timing belt or chain?

thanks

2008 is where the lower chain (which never ever snapped) was replaced with a wet belt (which sometime does, although I suspect that's mainly because people don't know it's there so when they have the cambelt (top belt) done, the garage doesn't do the wet belt).  Personally I'd assume it was a wet belt and if there's no receipt to confirm both belts have been done, then get them both done and get a good chunk of the car to go towards it.

The both belts and the main tensioner and supposed to be replaced at either 125K miles OR 10 years, whichever comes 1st.  So potentially the car is 3 years overdue for it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I’m getting it priced up. Wouldn’t buy it without those belts replaced

Turned out the car had a chain. It must be early 08 when they still fitted chains. I got the cam belt replaced and car drives great

Nice one, you should have a pretty bulletproof engine going forward then 👍
