Mk4 2.0 TDCI MAF Sensor Cx resulting in reduced MPG

Featured Replies

My Mk4 Mondeo, 2.0TDCI 60 Plate developed a fault whereby at low speed 20 mph approx (stupid speed limits on base) and approx 1500RPM the car seemed to hunt and the revs hunt/bounce at around that value. Read a few forum posts etc and decided to clean the inlet manifold on the front of the engine. That didn’t fix the fault.

Next I carried out a transmission fluid change thinking that could be the problem. Fault still apparent.

Finally, the easiest of all the jobs, I replaced the MAF sensor. And that cured the fault. However, I seem to have lost approximately 5-10mpg fuel economy following the installation of the new part. I cleared all faults. Done a battery disconnect for at least 24 hours to clear/reset ecu too but mpg issue still apparent.

Prior to MAF sensor change I was getting round about 49MPG on average, as I say, now I’m down to 45MPG and below. I drive the same motorway journey each week a couple of times and the change in mpg is evident.

Any clues please?
