Valve body CTX Transmission

Featured Replies

Hi, I need your help.
I disassembled CVT/CTX transmission from Fiesta MK4 1.25 zetec, 1997. I have a problem with assembly valve body.

There were two clips and now i don't know where I have to put them. I guess where should be one of them. But still I have a problem with one. In the picture I marked one place were I put one clip. In valve body were also balls and I don't know how many should be and where mount them.

If anybody have diagram or something what can help me assembly I will be very faitfull.

Hi, did you ever complete what you wanted to do?. My auto fiesta started stalling at junctions etc.. and felt like it was stuck in a high gear as wouldn't pull up a hill even when put in L. Hardly any information on these nor spare gearboxes around. Now it hardly drives at all, (suddenly did this), did the fluid and filter every 30k miles, its done 72k. Was wondering if taking this valve body off and cleaning it would help, doubt it, looking for another gearbox at the moment whilst still playing with it.

Is your transmission a CVT?

DaveT70 yes it is, not sure how to directly reply

Ahh I see you just write in the box, new to this thread stuff

Well, I'm not too sure about how the CVT works, but if it runs on fluid, which it must and you know you haven't changed the fluid recently, or at all, get it changed ASAP and see if the problem goes away.

Failing that it could be the belt is worn, but I believe that causes slippage, not so much ratio selection.

Make sure you research, properly, what fluid is used.

I would go to a Ford parts dept, with your reg number and ask them how much for fluid, what fluid it is and, more importantly, how much it holds, they will look it up on the system for you.

Come back after you've had the fluid changed and let us know

Ok will do, thanks for your help and information

Update: Fluid and filter changed, seemed ok putting the car in D and R had sufficient creep and using slight throttle went forward and back, took it up the road and with in a 100 feet it went straight into the highest ratio so I rolled back into the driveway and sure enough it wouldn't creep forward or back when put in D or R, L and was the same as before ( in a manual it would be like trying to pull off in 5th). I decided to take the valve body out like the Author of this post, took all the valves out, 1 was sticky and 1 a bit stuck but after a clean and hone out of the chamber they were free, 1 of the valves attached to the throttle link ( not sure on actual name) looked different inside as if a piece was missing/broke. There were metal filings in the oil which apparently on a cvt is fairly normal, however the fillings also had made their way past the filter and were all in the valve body so I was wondering if the piece the valve chamber was in fact broken. I will add a picture to show what I mean, all the other valve chambers were circular unlike this one. I can't try it back in the car till tomorrow so will update then if any better.

Oh bother 🙄 (not what I would have said but some words are not allowed).

That's broken I'm afraid.

Oh dear, thanks for clearing that up

I take it that isn't fixable even for a transmission specialist?

Almost everything is fixable at a price, but that's likely to be the problem 'the price'.

You can always ask for a quote and see what they say.

If you're feeling brave, you may need to take the valve body off and clean it out, plus change the belt (maybe)

If not try and source a replacement, but I think that may be near impossible now
