Powershift Gearbox Issues

Hi, 

I have just brought a 2010 Ford Mondeo Titanium 163bhp powershift Hatchback. 

The gearbox is not in good nick at all, the car seems to jerk from gear to gear, on a cold and hot engine. I took it to a local mechanic who did a gearbox oil service saying it would fix the issue. After the service was complete, the car had the same issue. No changes at all. He then advised (after me wasting over £100 on a gearbox service) that the service may have been done too late, and not completed on time by the previous owner. He said that areas of the gearbox may have been oil deprived for too long. 
I don’t fully trust this mechanic after the advice he give with the job he did, I was hoping to get some advice on weather the gearbox can be repaired or would have to be replaced? 
 

The current symptoms are jerking and a slight grinding sound on some gear changes.

This is the wet clutch 6 speed 6DCT450 Powershift manufactured by Getrag. Also used in numerous Volvo models.

It is imperative that these transmissions have an oil and filter change every three years or 37,500 miles, whichever occurs first

£100 is dirt cheap for a transmission service. The oil is very expensive - dealer service is around the £300

Did your man replace the oil filter - waste of time if it wasn't.

Have you still got the old oil filter - if so, examine it very closely and look out for minute particles of creamy coloured plastic bits - if there are any it is the first sign of the front clutch breaking up.

What mileage has the veh done

Did you buy it from a garage, if so take it back

From what you describe it sound like you could be into great expense. Also finding someone capable, or even prepared to fix it, is difficult

I’ve brought the car at 108,000. It came with no service history and I picked it up quite cheap from auction, not a dealer. The filter was changed when the transmission service was done, it was around £150 the service, managed to find the invoice today. I don’t have the old filter though and i doubt the mechanic has it either, it’s been around 8 weeks since the service was done. 
 

From speaking to a few people, they seem to think it is the clutch. The car settles into gear perfectly fine, and runs through all the gears as normal. The issue is with the gear change in itself. The automatic biting point also is very slow and seems like the issue is with the car engaging into the gear rather than running through the gear. The grinding sound is also as the car changes gear but not as it is running through climbing revs. 
 

Any idea how much a replacement clutch would cost?

Sorry for late reply - had to do a quick trip to bottom of Cornwall and back today, total 600 miles - horrendous traffic - it was a business trip so no option.

You need to find a specialist in your area - use google and get recommendations if you can - it will need a strip and rebuild - specialist price anywhere between £2k and £3K

Ford dealer will want to do an exchange transmission - somewhere around £4.5k.

When I bought my car five years ago I had a bill in the paperwork for £1600 for a replacement clutch,which the dealer I bought it from had paid for as he said it was an expensive lesson for someone missing an oil and filter change, I had mine changed after three years and had only done 13000 miles since the repair but better safe than sorry.
