Air filter problem

hi I'm new here as I hope some of you Ford lovers would be able to help me.  problem is that I bought an open Air filter.  but after i had replaced it and tried to start the car it was standing idle.  so i tried to remove my air mass meter but then the car goes into emergency program and turns off the turbo.  so my question is, do you think it is the air mass meter that is broken or maybe it is the plug for the air mass meter.  thanks in advance
