Knackered locking wheel nut key

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I'm new on here and I need some urgent help, I've had to replace my wheel with a replacement and have subsequently bent the locking nut key, how on earth to I get a replacement? It's not written down in the owners handbook and I don't fancy being fleeced by ford to remove the old and sting me for brand new'uns.

Aaaaaaargh!

Can you post up a pic of bent key?

OK, how on earth do you bend a locking key?? LOL

Having spoken to my local mechanic last year, he wasn't at all surprised by my broken nut key, having seen many. He took them all off with a bit of force and replaced with standard nuts at my request. Does anyone rob wheels these days? Quite possibly, but certainly not mine. Should I get in a fix at the side of the road, I don't need to fret about breaking a nut key again.

In reply to Stephen, could it be a ham fisted approach to applying the key (in my case) or bad materials? I suppose we may all get caught out sometimes.

It's usually some CockWomble with airgun, "dugga duggaring" the crap out of it (even if when it broke it was being removed/tightened by hand, the cumulative effect of years of various tyre places not taking any great car usually tells in the end).

I also disposed of the locking nuts on both my Focus, the (current) low scrap value of allow wheels means no one is likely to bother nicking them to weigh in at their local scrappy so unless you've got "nice" wheels I wouldn't worry about the chances of anyone nicking them.
