Real World MPG

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

Looking at purchasing a 2014 Ford SMax in its 2.0TDCI form in either the 138bhp or 161bhp. My driving is a mixture of town, twisty rural and the longer runs. I just wondered what real world MPG I could be looking at? The official figures are never correct. What MPG are you getting from yours and I would be interested to hear from those that have done it the manual way by brimming the tank, driving a few hundred miles and refilling the tank and working it out as the computer and the manual version can be 5mpg out.

Thank you all.

Mine is a 2.2 TDCi, average 41mpg on the motorway, 38mpg combined, town driving really depends. I previously had a 2.0TDCi 138, that did around 4mpg more, though it was a 2008 car so unlike to be as good as the 2014 version.

My driving is similar to the OP. I drive it keeping the rpms generally below 2000, use gears to keep in torque band.  (Retired truck driver) Smax 2013  2.0 ltr Duratorq around 45 mpg.  Replaced by Smax 2019 2.0 ltr Panther diesel ULEZ. 42.5 mpg.  Supposedly low emissions in favour on spending more on fuel.  Work that one out tree huggers!
