Mk3 Focus wipers

Featured Replies

Hi All.

Recently bought a Mk3 Focus 1.6TDCI titanium 2011 hatchback. There is an issue with the intermittent wiper program. The wipers work on all other settings. When you switch them on. If I select intermittent, they wipe once, then just park. If I twist the speed setting for the intermittent, they wipe again, once, rest, then park.

I've looked but can't find any info on this exact issue. Has anybody got any idea on what this is likely to be please? I was thinking a relay, but looking through the wiring diagram, I.can't see a relay for the front  wiper, just the rear, which also works fine.

TIA 🙂

Nev.

Are you sure they're not auto wipers?

A Focus MK3 Titanium has automatic wipers as standard.

On a Focus MK3 with automatic wipers the adjustment knob is not a speed setting but a sensitivity setting. The windscreen wipers will be activated automatically when the rain sensor detects water on the windscreen.

I didn't think they were automatic wipers? I could be wrong, in which case this is a bit embarrassing! 😳 Auto lights...definitely. the wiper stalk is a normal, off, intermittent, normal speed, high-speed. Its doesn't say Auto on the stalk at all?? I had a Jagaur X type before this, which had the same set up and you twisted the stalk to alternate the gap between wipes.

I know some models came with Auto wipers, but didn't think mine had them, due to the stalk not having an Auto setting on them.

The symbols on the stalk show intermittent as the first setting.

Thanks.

Nev

On the Focus MK3 Auto Lights and Auto Wipers are a combined feature. Both use the same sensor and both functions were not seperately available from each other.

If your car has Auto Lights it also has Auto Wipers.

The stalk for conventional wipers and Auto Wipers is identical. On conventional wipers the adjustment switch adjusts the timer interval of the wipers and on Auto Wipers the exact same adjustment switch adjusts the sensitivity of the rain sensor.

Go and throw a cup of water on the windscreen where the interior mirror is situated.

Thanks very much.. yes it does have auto wipers! Just sprayed the screen with a hose and it's all working fine! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I just assumed there would be a difference in the stalks if the car had auto wipers. Never had a car with auto wipers before! Still, one extra feature I didn't know it had! 😆 And yes, I did actually look through the manual when we picked up the car! Obviously missed this bit!

Thanks again.

Nev.
