Focus Mk2 1.6 100bhp and 115 Ti- VCT Gearbox interchangeable?

Featured Replies

HI everyone, i have a 2006 ford focus mk2 1.6 TI- VCT. It is a 5 speed manual. The gearbox has a crack and needs replacing. Am i able to use one from the standard 1.6 or does it need to be the same as mine from a ti-vct?

Many thanks in advance

It should be the same IB5 gearbox in both.

Possibly the final drive ratio was lower in the VCT version for improved acceleration, but yes, they are interchangeable.

The final drive ratio should be on a tag somewhere on the box, if it is different you may need to change settings in Forscan or your speedo will be out

Thanks for the info guys  I'll pull it out and check the tag

Just out of interest does the tdci share the same IB5 box too? Guessing the ratios would differ more with them though

The 1.6 and 1,8 TDCI have the much stronger MTX75 engine. The IB5 gearbox is not able to withstand the torque of the diesel engines.
