Mystery external button on boot

Can anyone help, this is driving us mad. Does anyone know what the button on the boot near the number plate is as when we press it nothing happens, that we know of anyway 🙄 it's a 59, 1.6

That's for the keyless locking same as the buttons on the door handles.

You should be able to lock the car by pressing it once or twice for double locking if you've got the key with you.

Or if it's like mine it's failed and now doesn't do anything.

Not available on it's own to replace if you did want to get it working, only comes with as part of a replacement boot finisher as far as I can see from the parts diagrams.

If your car does not have passive (keyless) entry and start then the vehicle has had a rear ender at some point and someone has fitted a 2nd hand boot finisher from a passive entry car.

They should wire it up to the horn 🤣

If it is a titanium spec model then it could have had the original chrome boot handle stolen; was quite common back a few years ago,
