Rear suspension upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi folks looking for advice I own a 2005 mk2 focus with the 2 litre petrol engine. I’m looking to find out if the mounting points for the rear suspension from a 3 door ST focus will  bolt straight into my 5 door. Are the top mounting points the same on a 3 door as a 5 door ?

Apart from being a bit lower the rear suspension of the Focus MK2/MK2.5 ST Hatchback is technical identical to the rear suspension of the "normal" Focus MK2/MK2.5 Hatchback.

Installing the ST rear suspension to a normal Focus only makes sense if the front suspension is also upgraded. Since the ST has a much heavier engine/gearbox the ST front springs are not suitable for other engine types (the front will be higher than the rear). This basically means that installing the ST rear suspension also requires (custom made) springs to meet the weight of your engine and the height/characterictics of the rear springs.

In my opinion it is a much better upgrade to install decent lowering springs (for example Eibach) combined with matching shock absorbers (for example Bilstein) that are designed for your car/engine combination.
