Mk4 Electric Window issue

Featured Replies

Apologies if this topic is already live, I couldn't find it.

I've got a mk4 focus and the drivers side window is not functioning normally. The 1 touch down is ok but the 1 touch up isn't working and when manually lifting the window it "bounces back" when reaching the top. I've tried methods shown on YouTube apart from disconnecting the battery. Any ideas?

Read the instructions in the manual regarding " Bounce Back" to reset it. It takes roughly 2 mins. Window up and hold window down and hold x 4 IIRC.

I had this issue and the manual didn’t help.  Had to take it into a dealer (5 mins away luckily) as the anti pinch sensors need resetting.  It’s apparently a 90 min process.

Not a 90 min job at all. Can be done by resetting via the switch. Just takes a bit of patience. The dealer you used was resetting by using there diagnostics and probably did software update on each door module as part of the procedure.

I can agree with that. I had to reset all 4 windows on my car after it came back from the dealership and they had for some reason had the battery disconnected. The user manual is not the clearest to understand but after half a dozen attempts on the first two windows I eventually got them all done.

Not 100% the same thing but still related ... a little squirt of silicone lubricant spray on the rubber window guides twice a year does wonders at helping to stop the windows from sticking.

Tried everything the manual says but no joy. It says to hold the switch up for a few seconds once fully closed however it just bounces back and reopens again as soon as it reaches the top. Maybe i need to go to dealer.

Yes it does. You have to repeat the procedure both up and down x4 IIRC

The procedure when its bouncing back is different to the normal reset one.

When its bounced back, you immediately repeat the window up. Do this 3 (.or possibly 4 ) times and on the final one it should stay up. You do need to repeat the up without any delay after the bounceback stops on the way down

Or there is the option to just turn Bounce Back off. It does tell you how to turn it off in the handbook but advises not to do it.

Tried that method too. Tried all of the above methods to no avail.

I wish I could remember just what I did to reset mine. I know like you I tried (and tried and tried) to reset my windows following the instructions in the handbook. I watched 3 or 4 videos on You-Tube and googled resetting them. Eventually I managed to re-set one. Then I tried the next and again it just would not work. After another half a dozen attemps I got window number 2 re-set and at that point realised the error or badly worded instructions and managed to re-set the last two windows on the first try. Again I'm sorry I just can't remember what it is that you need to do, the instructions in the book are kind of correct but don't actually mean it the way its been said. Maybe it has been translated from German and the clarity of the instructions has been lost.

If all else fails then its a trip to the dealers, who will give you a load of BS before re-setting the windows which will take them 2 minutes.

Sometimes the switch method doesn’t work as the fault lies in the calibration of the sensor.  Annoyingly mine just started doing this again yesterday.  It’s only been 8 weeks since it was last fixed.  I like the car but annoying little bugs like this really don’t do Ford any favours in the reliability and satisfaction stakes.

The dealer showed me the process, which involved disabling the sensor then winding the window all the way up. Re-enabling the sensors, manually winding the windows up a bit at a time, then with the one touch, and then doing the 4x up down method, on each window in turn. Start to finish was 15 minutes each window, as I watched them do it.

Same here, i love the car and I'm already planning another when the 4 years is up with this 1. But i agree with little niggles like this window issue and my auto start/stop hasn't functioned for about a year. I really hope Ford can sort it out.

By the time you replace the car in 4 years time there will be a new Stop/Stop system which will be very environmentally friendly and use no fuel ! 😉

Mine did start to work the day after a round trip of 180 miles. That was last week.

The usual routine to work and back soon put a stop to it 😆

Mines exactly the same.  It takes at least 30-40 miles before it’ll do it.  TBH, it barely matters to me as my drive to work is mostly free flowing A roads.
