Auto Brake Release, forward surge from cold start.

Featured Replies

I'm finding that if my car has been parked up for a few hours, and I go to move off, the auto brake does not release smoothly. The car kind of rises up against the brakes, which then release and the car surges forward.  If I press the handbrake button to release the brake before moving off, it is fine.

Does anyone else experience this?

the release comes from the car detecting you are trying to drive off - many cars have to wear the clutch and brakes before it knows the drivers is really trying to move the car (it sells more clutches discs and pads - guess who profits)

use the button or better still buy a real car with a hand brake lever

here's another clue about getting the money out of your pocket (i just typed up on another post)

NOTE YOU WANT THIS BROKEN

Start Stop is VERY bad for the engine, it was only fitted to benefit the manufacturer.
its has two bad for the planet benefits for them and none for us or the vehicle owner. The whole idea is sick and marketed to fools to steal money

1) it increases car sales (the main aim)
2) is drops their pretend CO2 numbers so the don't get fined. Rather than drives them to build ever more efficient and clean engines.
3) destroys the planet with increased manufacturer of cars / engines / starters / batteries / alternators etc. which together produce way more than 1000 times the pollution of burning a bit of fuel. Which after all has the added benefits of keeping the battery charged, the ac / heater working so the driver is able to see and control a car that works correctly... and when working at operating temp is producing less pollution and burning less fuel !!!

START STOP IS A CON JOB

Yes, use the switch unless you want to prematurely wear out your Clutch. It does auto release if the Clutch is in and the Accelerator is pressed, and how quickly it releases will depend on your Clutch and Accelerator control.

The switch should also be used to engage it when required.

The start/stop function on my 68 plate wasn't working when I bought it 2 weeks ago. I was all for getting it fixed, but then saw so many negative comments on here regarding its usefulness and the wear and tear it can potentially create, so I decided to leave it as is.

That’s sour grapes from Botus, cause he’s not got it…😜

If you use your car regularly it should start working. Whether that’s a good thing….up to u.

I’ve found 2 year old the brake sensors aren’t half as sensitive. I can break really gently without auto hold engaging . For S/S I need to intentionally keep my foot on the brake a second or 2 longer. Mines an auto tho.

2nd thoughts …it’s not actually up to you..don’t like it ….need to press the button every journey!

I have stop start and hate it. So it can’t be sour grapes for me. I always disable it when I start the car. Wish I could turn it off permanently. From a mechanical point of view it’s bad for your car. I think anyone who understands the mechanical side will agree it’s bad for the car.

All about emissions, the lack of a permanent off button.

I don’t see mk3 owners complaining about damage caused by it. Maybe cause it rarely worked for them 🤷‍♂️

From a lease point of view it gets handed back in 11 months.

yes, I understand the lack of facility to turn it off permanently will be justified by emissions and the tax class my car is in due to the stop start helping low emissions (2015 1.5tdci fiesta road tax = Nil - yippee!).

A few years ago I had a Fiat Punto hire car in Majorca for a week. That had the facility to turn off stop start so it stayed off.

That might be because with the Mk3 you can use ForScan to turn it off permanently.

I have come up with an answer for my Mk4 which is not perfect but as good as it gets for now. I have taken the S/S button apart and fitted a 10 ohm resistor across the switch. This means that the S/S will only operate a maximum of once per journey  before the system will automatically turn itself off and the button lights up saying Off.

Since the system only works less than half the time in anycase then it means i can go weeks without it stopping my engine, and when it does I know it will only do it that one time and it won't do it again on that journey. So I class this as about a 95% fix. 👍

Do you pull away then put your seatbelt on?

I find mine only does this if you haven't put your seatbelt on

That's a bit drastic considering there is a button to switch it off.

Maybe the rear caliper mechanism is seizing, mainly caused by carwash centres, and needs lubricating

Ingenious !
Was it that or sell the car? 😂

It came very close !!!

If cars could be powered by swear words then I would never had need put diesel in again. Every time that stupid system killed my engine I would explode, it was not doing my blood pressure any good. Something had to give !!
