Rocker cover oil leak

Featured Replies

The rocker cover gasket was replaced about three months ago, but recently it had started leaking and pooling around the injectors. I've traced the leak back to the origin. Which is by injectors 2 and 3. Had the gasket replaced again but it is still leaking a considerable amount. If left too long without cleaning up with a cloth, it will start running down on the exhaust and all over the thermostat. Does anyone have ideas on what can cause this?

Did you use an OEM gasket or aftermarket?

Oem gasket purchased from ford, both times. Debating aftermarket to see if they is any difference

The head may need skimmed. What mileage has the car done?

The car itself has done 111500, but the engine got replaced with one with 44000.

For an engine with only 44K its not common to even need to replace the Head Gasket.

I can only think when the head gasket has been replaced that both facing surfaces have not been 100% clean or that the torque down sequence of the head was not done in the correct order. To have the head gasket fail once is unlucky, but to have it fail twice is very concerning.

Yep I agree something defo not right. Must be cleaned to death and feel around for any rough areas to make sure it's flat all around otherwise it will leak out. Sometimes with gaskets a slight lubrication with oil helps.

It is not the head gasket, it the rocker cover gasket.

Ok, lets start again. If it's only the Rocker cover gasket then its no big deal 😉. Did you use any gasket seal with the new gasket or did you just put it on dry ?

It was done both times by the garage. But if needs be I'll do it myself.

Just an update to this thread. The gasket was leaking, I replaced the whole the rocker cover, but the injector studs and nuts worked loose, so oil and diesel was leaking on to top of the engine. Turns out to be common on this engine, the injector studs and nuts work loose over time.

Just a warning to anyone doing the injector studs, be careful and do not torque to specified torque, go 1 under as I had to studs snap in the block.
