Mk.2 2.0 Petrol Automatic Transmission Jerky

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, probably a common problem but I thought I'd check with you guys.

Transmission noticeably judders / shakes when in automatic and downshifting from 2nd gear to 1st gear when coming to a stop. All other situations seems pretty normal. Checked fluid, still got a slight pink tint to it, but mostly orange now. Problem seems slightly better when in CVT manual. No noise I can discern, no grinding or rubbing that I can notice either. Transmission oil was last changed roughly 25k kilometers ago. No slipping gears, is this just a simple transmission flush or is this a sign of bad things to come?

Thanks!

This isn't a CVT? Please explain.

If you've recently changed the fluid, then the issue started, are you confident you put in the correct fluid?

Run a clutch relearn cycle.

Ensure engine AND transmission is a full operating temperature.

Start engine, seatbelt off, handbrake off, FOOT HARD ON BRAKE PEDAL:

Run the shifter from "P" to "D" five times within 6 seconds ending up in "P"

Then Within 6 seconds: Run the shifter from "P" to "D" five times within 6 seconds ending up in "P" again.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE.

Keeping engine running, keeping foot on the brake

Run from "P" to "D" and hold 5 seconds

JUMP TO "R" and hold five seconds.

JUMP BACK TO "D" and hold five seconds.

REPEAT THIS 5 TIMES and return to "P" and release brake.

Each time you run from "R" to "D" you should notice the bumps getting less and less.

If not repeat the stage again.

If it's still doing it after this then the internals are warn. Sorry

i may be wrong but the fluid should be cherry red, you say its orange , does it smell ?????????
