Focus mk3 1.0 tire/wheel change

Featured Replies

The original wheel/ tire size is 205/55/16. Could the size be changed to 225/50/17? Should it fit? Would it be better for performance? And what if there are many or big road holes should the wheels be damaged easier?

Tire size 225-55-17 is too large. The prescibed tire size for 17 Inch wheels is 215/50/17.

225-50-17 tires will rub and will also affect performance in a negative way because of the increased tire width and the larger diameter/circumference.

Sorry i meant 225/45/17. Should it be right?

225

As already said by Wilco, the tyre width is too wide. The maximum tyre width allowed is 215.

Tire size 225-45-17 fits just fine.

I use this tire size during winter without any problems.

225-45-17 has a smaller diameter/circumference than tire size 215-50-17.  This is no problem as long as the programmed tire size is changed using a suitable diagnostic sytem.

Now i use 205/22/16 (from beginning). So you say 225/45/17 is fine? What about the price? Are those tires too expensive? What if the road is not good (holes etc), shall the wheel be damaged easier than 16'?

Will that size be better for performance or will be worse? since it is bigger.

Changed them, i will report after they will be tested.

The result is very good. The car is more stable, it turns better and easier. Perfomance seems to be the same.
