06 Focus Sport Instrument Cluster query.

Featured Replies

Hi all, Can anyone please advise me as to why a 2nd Hand Instrument Cluster would show "Steering Failure" in the mileage LCD box and refuse to start. All the other lights show but turn the ignition to start and nothing. The 2nd hand one has all the same part no's etc as the original which by the way suffered the usual known problem with this model and although repaired once it still permanently showed Battery warning light and would lose all the Dials/Mileage etc sometimes. I was under the impression that this installation of another Cluster didn't need reprogramming, am i wrong? Just to clarify it,s an 06 Focus Sport Estate 1.6 Petrol. Thanks to all those that respond.

All of these problems are caused by an incorrect instrument cluster configuration.

The new instrument cluster needs to be reprogrammed correctly using a suitable diagnostic system. Since the instrument cluster is an integral part of the PATS immobilizer system it is also necessary to reprogram the PATS immobilizer system.

Wilco is correct, you can not just change the instrument cluster without reprogramming.  The PATS reads the electronic serial number of the instrument cluster and so it will need updated. Also there will probably be a problem with the mileage, you need the replacment to have less mileage than your original as you can only repogramme the mileage upwards, the on board processor will not alllow the mileage to go backwards. Swapping instrument clusters is never easy or straight forward.

Many thanks Wilco and unofix for your replies. I now know that it,s going to have to be reprogrammed which i suspected but just needed it confirmed by someone who actually KNEW what they were talking about. unofix, you mention the potential problem with the mileage, the new Cluster shows lower mileage so shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks again guys😀

Thats good news. The bad news is you will have to spend £10 to buy the full licence for ForScan so that you can adjust the mileage. The free licence does not allow you to programme the PATS system or adjust mileage.
