Focus MK2 heat shield

Featured Replies

Hello!

New here, please don't be mean 🙂 I own a focus mk2 2.0 tdci 100kW 2007, old car I know, but I really like it 😄 Last week the soft material behind the heat shield above the DPF caught fire... strangers who saw the incident advised me to rip the heat shield out - witch we did. Obviously the heat shield is there for a reason and I'm really struggling to find a new one that fits for my focus. I'm not a car person, changing wheels/car battery is the best I can do and this heat shield is driving me nuts. I have no clue how it looks since my old one is in pieces and burnt. Searching on google/parts websites gives me 3 different looking heat shields and I have no clue witch one to buy. Perhaps someone more focus-savvy could help me? 😄A picture of it, part code, a link to a seller with the correct one, anything would be much appreciated!
Thank you 🙂

Hello Eima, welcome to the Ford Owners Club 😀

Your car has more than one heat shield, which one do you need to replace ?

Take a photo and post it here of where on your car you need the heat shield to fit and someone will help you.

Hello! 🙂 I have no way of going under my car without driving 20km. The heat shield that I need sits directly on top of DPF, roughly in the middle of the car.

I think it will be one of the following, I can't tell which one without a picture from you.

I'll try jacking the car up tomorrow and see if I can take any decent pictures, thanks!

Hello 🙂 managed to take some pictures under the car. Hope it's clear enough 🙂 Heat shield missing on the left side.

If it is mine I might be tempted to leave it how it is. I can see there are no pipes above it that need protecting from heat (brake and fuel pipes). Also there looks to me an extra piece of metal welded to car floor in the top of the arch which must help shield heat from getting inside car. I guess it might get hotter in the car but there is no obvious danger as far as I can see. This is not professional advice. Any other points of view from others?  I accept no responsibility should it all go horribly wrong.

Ford should think about saving money and not fitting the heat shield.

Then again the very fact it caught fire gives a clue as to why it might be needed. Trust me if there was no need to have one fitted then the manufacturer would not waste time and money fitting one.

Have to wonder why a flammable material is being used as a heat shield...  Lovely bit of asbestos might have done a better job!

Missing heatshields are now an MOT fail since the 2018 regs change.  Though with the use of kW and km I'm not sure the OP will need one anyway.

If I took pictures from the other side you could see fuel lines running really close to the dpf 😐 I don't want to take any risks 😄 Did a bit of reading and my conclusion is: if it's there - it's there for a reason 🙂

And the material above the heat shield was more like half burning / half smoldering, no clue what it was made of. Anyway.

Does anyone know witch heat shield will fit?
