1.0T Eco-boost 140BHP vs. 1.5T Eco-boost

Featured Replies

I’m looking at buying a Ford Focus ST Line (Petrol) and I’m currently stuck between a 2018 1.0T Eco-boost 140BHP with 15k on the clock or a 2017 1.5T Eco-boost with 40k on the clock

Theres about £500.00 between the difference in price so that’s not an issue.

Can any current owners comment on their models or ifanyone has any first hand comparison between the two that’d be a BIG help!

Thanks!

Hi Guy

Isn’t it the bottom of the steering wheel being flat that makes them Mk 3.5s? If that’s the case then yes they’re both Mk 3.5s

They are Mk 3.5 (Mk 3 facelift). It's more that they're 2015 MY onwards. The flat bottomed wheel is an ST-Line thing, I believe.

I went from a 1.6 ti-vct 125 mk3 focus to a 2018 1.5 182 st line x. The difference in acceleration was very noticeable and it still makes me smile every time I put my foot down.

I was considering a 1.0 140 but found one of the few 1.5 mk3.5s that were around with low mileage so paid the extra.

I also drive the wife's 1.0 125 ecosport and it is still nippy when the turbo kicks in but doesn't feel as powerful. I imagine the focus 1.0 140 would be similar being a heavier car but a bit more power.

I wanted an st line x for the full electric windows, bigger wheels plus reversing camera. It all depends what you want from the car.

Test driving the 1.5T today so we’ll see how it goes! Would you say 40k miles was low for a 2017 model?

Also what’s the 1.5T like on fuel economy?

40k isn't bad. I got mine with 6.5k on the clock and I'm up to 12.5k now. I sold my mk3 with 75k and my mk1.5 had 96k when I sold that one.

On my 1.5 I generally get around 35 mpg and that is around 70/30 motorway driving on my daily to work. On long motorway trips I got 47mpg for a 400 mile round trip to Durham and back.

Just had a look on an app and the UK average mileage per year is just over 7k so 40k is a little bit over average at around 10k per year.

1.5, no contest
