Airbag Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi, sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place.

Right, for a little while I've had an airbag Warning light coming on in my MK1 Focus. It doesn't come on all the time, but more often than not, it does. I cannot see any concrete pattern between anything I do and when it lights up although a week or so back it appeared to come on when I was going up hill. I am not aware of any leak other than in the boot directly under the passenger taillight. The garage (family friend) has replaced the clock spring, fiddled with the wires and connectors under the seat...all to no avail. I took it in again last week to try and clear it again and they got the garage electrician down to check it out. After 3 hours, he's still stumped and he's very experienced. He said that the diagnostic computer was saying that it was the driver's side airbag, then, after he did some work there, it said it was the passenger's side airbag, then the driver side again, so it's jumping around. He's of the opinion that there is a fault with the wiring somewhere and he suspects it's under the driver's carpet. However I was reading the other week that someone had a similar problem and it ended up being something to do with the fusebox! I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice or had any experience with the fuse box issue? Any advice would be much appreciated! Gav

Hi Gavin, you're going to need a bit of luck to get to the bottom of this.

The Fusebox is not just that, it also is a GEM (Generic Electronic Module) or a BCM (Body Control Module) depends on the age of the vehicle. They are known to suffer from water getting to the plugs and sockets of the module and the conncetions corroding. Also but probably less likely for your car is the Instrument Cluster dry solder joint problem which again causes all sorts of random faults.
