Focus CC3 central locking problem

Featured Replies

Hello, new member here.

I have a 60 plate Ford Focus CC3 which I am very happy with, but for some reason the boot has started unlocking and popping open all by it's self.  This originally happened with the car parked in the open and I thought it may be due to water ingress, but couldn't see any.  The car has now been in my garage for about a month, but it happened again the other day.  The boot was ajar and the solenoid was clicking repeatedly.  I closed the boot and it hasn't happened again yet.  Fortunately, working from home means that I do not need to use the car at the moment.

I have searched the internet for a solution, but found only a reference to the boot opening by itself.  Does anyone on this forum know of a solution to this problem?

Alan.

The first thing I would check is the BCM.

Possibly water ingress, common on MK2 Focus.

The BCM is the fusebox under the glovebox, water gets in from a poorly fitted pollen filter.

Drop the BCM down and disconnect a few plugs to see if you have any green fur or corrosion on any pins or the board, if you do you will need to replace or source a replacement BCM and reprogram.

Had a quick look and it seemed OK, but will take a better look later.  I tried starting the car, but just got a whirring noise, so I think that the battery has now gone flat and am giving it a bit of a charge.

As it is just the boot opening up, When the battery is charged, I will try the convertible roof and see if that still works as it should.

I haven't been able to look at this for a while, as I have been laid up with a bad back and was not able to screw myself into the passenger foot well!

I have opened up both fuse boxes and examined them with the aid of a torch, but can't see any damage or any sign of water/damp even in the surrounding areas.

It is only the boot that pops open and I can't find anything that triggers it, so I think that the problem could be with the wiring or the boot door lock and it may need a visit to the garage. Unless anyone has any further suggestions.

Alan.
