MK2 focus keyless questions

Featured Replies

hi everyone

i have some questions regarding keyless on the mk2 focus, 2005-2011 models

first off: antennas.. how many are there and where are they located? im looking at wiring diagrams and there seems to be multiple?

second: is the key fob different to a standard flip key fob? i know the keyless have a hidden blade but just for ease are the insides physically different?

any help massively appreciated. thanks!

The insides will be different. The fob needs power in order for the immobiliser to register that its in the car. The regular flip keys don't have this (they just have a low range transponder chip so you can still start the car if the key battery dies). The emergency key blade on the keyless fob also has one of these.

Thanks for that much appreciated, I shall source some

could anyone shed any light on how many antennae/where please?

Do you have just keyless start or keyless (non remote) entry too?

Keyless entry system (or passive entry) will have sensors on the doors and tailgate area for passive entry plus one in either the centre console or in the steering column lower cowling for keyless start.

There is also a sensor for remote entry in the roof above the interior light

There should be a blank on the lower steering column cowling (where the ignition switch would be), if you can't get the car to start remove the blank and insert the key into the dock, you should get ignition then

Hi Dave

I don't have either - I'm working on fitting keyless entry first then possibly start. So far, I've found all the wiring I've looked for - the module 5 plugs, and the plug for the sensor behind the rear seats, I'm just struggling to work out what other sensors there are inside the car to find their plugs

thanks

Just the ones in the doors and the centre console then

There’s an extra one inside the boot just behind the back seats, or on mine at least. Pretty sure this is the KLIB sensor - Keys Locked In Boot, it detects if you’re trying to lock the car while there’s a key in the boot.

So got a module, plugged it all in happy days, went on elmconfig but it won’t find it at all 😞
