Focus mk3.5 power loss

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a strange problem with my mk3.5 Ford Focus (2017, 120hp): the car runs normally in the first 5 gears, however when I switch into 6-th the car has no power + cruze control isn`t working in 6-th gear.

I have been to Ford service and they could not figure it out.

Do you guys have any suggestions for this problem?

Thank`s

That is a weird one.

Ford service should really be plugging in, reading live data and taking the car out to replicate the fault so they can see what is, or isn't happening.

The issue will probably be to do with gear selection indicator, the car knows what gear you are in, but I don't know where the sensor is.

It'll either be in the gearbox or, more likely on the selector. I would reckon it's not recognising that you are in 6th, probably thinks you are in neutral, so won't over rev or activate cruise control (CC).

it can't be anything to do with CC sensors as it works in the other gears.

Can't be throttle/fuel flow as it would happen all the time.

Get dealer to do live data stream to see what's (not) going on.

Let us know how you get on

The symptoms indicate that clutch slip is detected.

The PCM has the speed/RPM ratio programmed into the software for each gear. If the clutch is worn and starts slipping (which usually starts occurring in highest gear) the speed/RPM ratio does no longer match. As a result of this the PCM will disable the cruise control and reduce power to prevent the clutch from overheating.

I have also seen this exact same symptoms on a car that had the gearbox replaced. The installed gearbox did have an incorrect 6th gear ratio compared to the original gearbox.

Thank you guys for the advices. Will try with an other Ford service maybe they have a solution.

I think the clutch variant is very possible.

Will check and get back to you.
