MK2 Focus Handbrake Not Holding

Featured Replies

Hi all so my handbrake on my MK2 focus isn't holding keeps rolling back I've changed the 2 rear drum shoes on the back but still nothing, just wondering if anyone has some ideas or things to try before I go to a garage just want to try other possible issues before having them over change me for something that could be simple, thank you.

If you have replaced the shoes, sounds like they are not properly contacting the drum, otherwise they'd hold, it's a system that's been used for generations and in principal very simple. I would check online for a diagram of the inside of the brake assembly, and see if there's anything obvious you have missed. Like I said, when you yank the handbrake cable, they operate some springs, push the shoes out to grab the drum, so not much to go wrong except the loads of parts involved in getting them to do that LOL

When we had a Mk2 with similar problems I got a garage to change the handbrake cables under the car. The brakes then worked perfectly.
