Update Sat Nav problem on 2011 Focus Sport

Featured Replies

Trying to update Sat Nav on 2011 Focus sport but when I put VIN in on Ford site it says its not equipped with Sync. It has Sat Nav via SD card and voice control but it's not touch screen. I'm computer savvy but  a novice regarding this so be kind lol.

Any help appreciated 🙂

That is correct. Sync was only introduced around 2012, and it is only SYNC 2 and above that don't use SD cards (around 2015 onwards).

If you want to update the maps then you have to buy a new SD card. A 2011 car can be either a mk2.5 or mk3 Focus (although I don't think the "sport" was a thing on the mk3, so I'm guessing you have a late mk2 facelift?)

Ford dealers sell them, as well as TOMTOM (who made the sat nav unit). You can also shop around on eBay for them.

Says its compatible with 2011 focus but also says your ford Sync system may need updating to use latest map versions. Is it just that I've bought one too new for my car ?

  I've attached picture.

I can't tell from just the year of your car as it is 2011, which was the changeover year from the mk2.5 to the mk3 focus. I suspect you have a mk2.5, however I'm not 100% as you haven't told me lol.

The mk2.5 ran from 2008-2011 and the mk3 ran from 2011-2015.

I have a Focus ST3 (Build Date 17th March 2016) that had SYNC2 (before I updated to a SYNC 3 unit). The SYNC 2 operated on an SD card, and I understand it was a few months later that SYNC 3 was introduced.

I'm guessing 2.5 as it was registered march 2011

Don't guess. Just Google image search mk2.5 Focus, then Google mk3 focus and see which one yours looks like. The 2 models look nothing alike so I'd be concerned if you can't tell the difference

I might be old and female but I'm not stupid. 😉 it is a mk2.5

In that case you have the wrong SD card. The SD card you have is for the Ford MFD satnav system that is used on the Focus MK3.

The Focus Mk2.5 did have the Travelpilot FX (non touch screen) or Travelpilot NX (touch screen) satnav system. Since both the Travelpilot FX and NX use a different SD card you need to buy the correct SD card for the system you have.

Thank you that makes sense 🙂
