Immobilizer fault

Featured Replies

Hello

looking for some help.
I’ve got a 2010 focus tdci keyless entry push button start.

last year I had a problem with the immobilizer light flashing at random times while driving, only for a split second and this would effect the radio also the lights both blip for that split second.

One day the car failed to start, had to get the RAC out, end result had to have a new battery and alternator.

so everything’s been fine up until last week when the problem started again, so what I’m asking is has anyone else had ever had this problem or know if could it be something else.

im back at the garage tomorrow for a service and Mot, so I’ll be telling them about what’s happening as both are still under warranty, but just didn’t want my pants pulled down with them trying to say it’s something else, yet having to shell out more money.

thanks

Paul

Hi Paul (5th new member called Paul in the last 24 hours), welcome to the Ford Owners Club.

The problem is most likely with the instrument cluster. The solder joints (made using lead free solder) will be starting to fail, it's a very common fault. When the connections fail you get all sorts of crazzy random faults including problems with the PATS immoblizer. There are many companies offering a repair service on eBay (about £70).

Your car might well have needed a new battery and alternator, (but then again it might not have). Once fitted the vehicle voltage was probably better than it had been which would mean the high resistance caused by the poor solder joints would not be such a problem. Now the connections on the instrument cluster are getting worse the problems are comming back.
