Ecoboost 1.0 Coolant issues

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I bought a 2013 focus ecoboost a few weeks ago and I've noticed it's drinking coolant for fun. It was really low on Friday and then today(Monday) it was well below the minimum level so I've topped it up again. I can't seem to find any leaks anywhere and I've read it can be a bit of a common issues? I've compared pics under the hood and it looks like it's had the recall work done to the pipe so I have no idea if it's something else or even if it would be covered under the Ford recall programme? Can anybody give me an idea what it could be or where to look?

Thanks

Check the coolant tank for any hairline cracks, i had the same issue which hasn't returned since i changed the tank for a brand new one.

I can see 2 on here. Is that enough for it to drop a few cms over a few days?

I replaced mine and the expansion tank cap as mine had cracks underneath and the bottom of the tank was wet. The cap is another thing that could cause issues.

Might be worth replacing and see how it goes. If doing it yourself, be careful with the clips and hoses as sometimes they are in tight and can break easily, I broke the ones on my partner's car when replacing hers, fortunately I was changing the hoses for the MK3.5 ones at the same time anyway.

I've ordered a replacement so fingers crossed that will resolve the issue 🤞
