WHICH TIMING BELT TO REPLACE ?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone ,

I'm really , honestly puzzled by this very important issue on my Ford Focus 2005 Diesel TDCI timing belt design and fitting .

Now I cannot believe a famous car Manual such as Haynes , does not mention the inside 'wet belt' cassette type and shows how to replace ONLY the outside dry belt  !

Can anyone familiar with this issue please shed some light as I 'm about to pay an arm and a leg on garage labour + parts but still not knowing what's what's gonna be replaced ???

Would I be a wise savvy if I was to tackle it myself according to Haynes manual and just change the outside one and be confident enough to do another 75 k miles or so ??? Do these two belts have to be changed together ? Please Ford folks be clear and shed some light on this one for us . Thanks .

I assume you have the 1.8tdci engine. If yours is 2005 model then you won't have the wet belt cassette type. Yours will be chain.
